Tanzania raises entry fees to historical sites by 900%

Tanzania has increased the entry fees to its prime historical sites. Since 01 Feb 2012, visitors to the sites have to pay $18 per person a day, up from $2. According to Donatius Kamamba, Director of Tanzania’s Department of Antiquities, the 900% hike was done in a bid to make the sub-sector contribute meaningfully.
Prime historical sites include Olduvai Gorge, Laetoli Footprint, Isimila Stone Age site, Engaruka ruins, Kaole ruins, Kunduchi ruins, Kilwa Kisiwani and Songo Mnara ruins.
