New South African 3D animation film "Zambezia" (2012)

The closing film the 33rd edition of the Durban International Film Festival, which runs until 29 July 2012, will be the South African 3D animation film "Zambezia". The film, produced by Cape Town-based Triggerfish Animation Studios, is featuring an all-star voice cast, including Abigail Breslin, Jeremy Suarez, Samuel L. Jackson and "Mr Spok" Leonard Nimoy.


Set in the majestic Victoria Falls, "Zambezia" tells the story of Kai, an young falcon that is brought up by his strict father in an isolated outpost. Kai's life is gettig completely turned upside down when a strange bird crashes into his small and protected world and tells him of bird city of "Zambezia".
"Zambezia" premiered at the Annecy Animation Festival in France in June 2012 and was already released in Israel earlier in July. It will come to cinemas in Germany on 30 Aug 2012 and in the Netherlands on 02 Jan 2013. The South Africa release is supposed to be scheduled for 26 Dec 2012. According to Triggerfish Animation Studios, a distribution deal in English-speaking territories with Sony has also been sold.
