Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (Nairobi): Travellers advised to arrive an extra hour early

update (26 March 2014): Kenya Airways issued a press release last week, in which the airline advises all travellers departing from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi to be at the airport at least an hour earlier than usual due to heavy traffic on Mombasa Road.

update (21 Feb 2014): Travellers are not only advised to be at the airport at least an hour earlier than normal, the Airport South Road between Outering Road/Airport North Road Overpass and Freight Terminal Road is also closed since 20 Feb 2014 until further notice!


Kenya's flag carrier, Kenya Airways, advises all travellers departing from Jomo Kenyatta International Airport in Nairobi to plan to be at the airport at least an hour before normal check-in time. The advice follows enhanced security measures implemented by the Kenya Airports Authority.
Kenya Airways usually recommends all international travellers to check in at least two and a half hours before departure of flight (irrespective of class of travel). Counters close one hour prior to departure. Domestic travellers are required to check in at least one and a half hours (irrespective of class of travel). Counters close 30 minutes to departure.
